middlesex

Middlesex is a fiction regarding the stories of three generations of the Greek settlers in the United States. It is almost like the history of the modern America viewing from the life of a typical American family living in Detroit and its vicinity for about one century. The special factor which the author put into this fiction was an intersex which was caused by the combination of two rare recessive genes through inbreeding of two generations. However my feeling is that the author did not want to focus on the intersex only but also the Greek American lives and cultures since the author is a Greek American too.

This novel is quite thick since the author wrote it in nine years and he used to refer or describe the things from several other allusions. However the fiction is so fluent and easy to read that you might be eager to finish it in just a few days by the attraction of these stories. The author is so good to tell the stories. Even though some paragraphs in the stories described the ordinary lives only, it still appealed my interests in reading. I think this is so called the pleasure of reading.

This fiction is regarding the stories of the settlers from Afghanistan to the states while the author is also an Afghanistan American. However the stories focus more on the lives of the Afganistan side while the main chapter of the fiction is regarding the love between the family and the friends which touches our hearts deeply.
